Yamaha’s latest creation combines cutting-edge technology and bold design inspired by sci-fi.
Japanese automotive leader Yamaha has introduced a groundbreaking concept motorcycle powered by artificial intelligence and boasting glow-in-the-dark wheels. This innovative design, dubbed the “motorcycle of the future,” was born out of a unique collaboration with Netflix’s sci-fi anime series Tokyo Override.
The partnership began when Netflix approached Yamaha to feature their bikes in the futuristic series. Yamaha provided the production team with 3D models, images, and sound recordings of their motorcycles, paving the way for a creative fusion of reality and fiction.
To craft this remarkable machine, Yamaha merged the best elements of two iconic models: the YZF-R1 superbike and the VMAX muscle cruiser. The result, named the Y/AI, is a visually stunning and futuristic motorcycle that feels like it’s straight out of a sci-fi movie.

A Look at the Y/AI’s Groundbreaking Features
One of the Y/AI’s standout features is its spokeless, semi-transparent wheels that glow with a vibrant blue light when the bike is in motion. The design also boasts a concealed engine housed within a sleek bridge connecting the wheels, creating a minimalist yet sophisticated aesthetic.
Adding to its futuristic appeal, the handlebars are positioned uniquely on the sides of the front forks, linked by an arched structure, giving the bike a truly one-of-a-kind appearance.
The motorcycle plays a prominent role in Tokyo Override, which is set in a future Tokyo 100 years from now, where artificial intelligence seamlessly integrates into everyday life, including transportation. Fans of the series were thrilled to see the Y/AI brought to life as a full-scale model showcased at the Motor Expo 2024 in Bangkok.
Other Developments in the Motorcycle World
In other industry news, American motorcycle giant Harley-Davidson has announced the expansion of its collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. This partnership aims to deliver an exciting new release for motorcycle enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, a frustrated biker from Germany recently shared her year-long struggle to find a critical part for her Harley-Davidson after her bike broke down during a road trip in Corsica. Larissa Scheler, a rider from Hanover, discovered that the issue stemmed from her engine control module – a vital component that governs key engine functions. Despite searching across two continents, her hunt for the elusive part highlighted the challenges riders can face when dealing with complex motorcycle technology.
Yamaha’s Vision for the Future
The Y/AI isn’t just a concept; it represents Yamaha’s vision of how motorcycles could evolve in an AI-driven world. As technology continues to advance, innovations like these are set to redefine the boundaries of what’s possible in the motorcycle industry.
