Sierra and Sierra EV are set to be unveiled in the latter half of 2025.
At the 2025 Auto Expo, Tata Motors showed one of the most extensive portfolios and Tata Sierra, and the new Sierra was undoubtedly eye-catching. This was our first look at the ICE Sierra because Tata Motors had previously shown the Sierra EV in various stages of development. It isn’t surprising, but like Tatas’ other ICE/EV siblings (Nexon/ Nexon, Curvy/Curvy EV), there are many similarities across both variants of the Sierra. Nonetheless, specific differences do exist. Let us study those in detail.

Tata Sierra vs Sierra EV: exterior design
The Tata Sierra and Sierra EV differ most in fascia, primarily in applying the brand and trim colours. The Sierra has a glossed black upper nose, and the bumper is painted to match the body. In the Sierra EV, it is the other way round.Â
The EV version also comes with a far cleaner bumper design that is likely to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics. On the flip side, the Sierra features operational air intakes, a necessity in Internal Combustion Engine automobiles, and a more textured grill. They both sport a full-width LED light bar and a bold faux silver skid plate on their chin.
Even with differing styles for the alloy wheels, both Sierras remain entwined with their charm and personality. The rear window, of course, is the most defining element with its distinctive wraparound effect that is excellently blotted out by the roof. The blacked-out roof blends the rear spoiler design, giving it a floating look. The Sierras also share a typical profile with flush-door handles, a kipped B-pillar, a raked window, a vertical rear end, and thick blacked-out trim, giving the cars a distinctive accent.
The SUVs share a near symmetry at the back with a block-sided tail, dual-tone bumper, and vertical lights.
Tata Sierra vs Sierra EV: interior and features
While Tata Motors has proclaimed that the production interior of the Sierra is yet to be revealed, they did note they’re still a work in progress. However, it’s compelling that there are various internal changes. During its release of the Sierra EV in 2023, Tata Motors did note that the instrumentation and infotainment would feature separate screens. The cabin also looked like a concept car with vegetation integrated into the dash and hidden air conditioning vents. However, like the Curvy and Nexon, the HVAC panel and centre console were more basic.
The ICE-powered Sierra on show at the Auto Expo had a three-screen setup, working AC vents and the all too familiar four-spoke steering wheel. The lower part of the dashboard is still covered, indicating that it is still a work in progress. Nevertheless, both Sierras will share the same interior to cut costs in the final production-spec iteration. According to some reports, the Sierra is expected to come in 4- and 5-seater configurations.
Tata Sierra vs Sierra EV: powertrain
There is scant information on both models, but we understand that the Sierra will get the new Tata 1.5 litre direct-injection petrol engine. Also, it may produce 2.0-litre diesel. So far, the Sierra EV has no supplied specification information for the battery or motor.
We should have more information about the approach to the launch, which is supposed to come in the second half of this year. Sierra is currently in the last phase of development. She will be the Tata response to Hyundai’s Creta/Creta Electric and Maruti’s Grand Vitara/e Vitara in the ever-expanding midsize SUV category.
